Cross Country Skiing

The rolling foothills of western Maine are ideal for cross-country skiing. There is a vast network of trails groomed for skate skiing and classic skiing and even access to backcountry terrain.

Maine Huts & Trails offers over 80 miles of groomed trail connecting four backcountry eco-lodges for Nordic skiing, snowshoeing and fat biking, open to the public at no charge.

The 5-mile Narrow Gauge Pathway in Carrabassett parallels the Carrabassett River.

Cathedral Pines Campground in Eustis gives you a chance to ski and snowshoe through magnificent towering pines.

Sugarloaf Outdoor Center offers 55 miles of trail groomed for skate skiing, Nordic skiing, and snowshoeing to pass holders. Equipment rentals are available and can be taken off-site.  Make sure you pick up a map, as it is color-coded according to ability.
